ST. CROIX HOCKEY - Tournament Rules

GENERAL RULES & INFORMATION

 

● All games are played under USA Hockey rules unless otherwise noted.

 

● A Trainer / EMT will be available for all games. The tournament will assume no liability for personal injury to participants or spectators during the event.

 

● A maximum of 20 players may be rostered and dressed for any team. No Player may be rostered on more than one team per age level.

 

● If a parent / guardian are not present at the tournament, a written consent must be provided for medical care authorization.

 

● All players must adhere to their local governing body’s rules regarding equipment. Mouth guards are required as specified by USA Hockey.

 

 

TOURNAMENT FORMAT & ISSUES

 

● Tournament scoring will consist of two (2) points for a win; one (1) point for a tie; and zero (0) points for a loss.

 

● Teams designated as HOME will wear DARK jerseys (or choice- notify opposing team).

 

● Tag up Off-Sides rule in effect.  Checking & slapshots allowed at all Boys levels except 1997 (Spring Classic only) and 1998.

 

● Games will consist of three (3) 15-minute, stop time periods. A six goal lead at any time results in running time until the lead falls to less than six goals. Ice will be resurfaced every two periods.

 

● All games will be completed in the set amount of time allowed on the schedule. If time becomes an issue, running time may be instituted and/or ice resurfacing will be skipped within reasonable terms.

 

● Each team will be permitted one (1) 45 second timeout per game.

 

● Teams must be ready to play 30 minutes prior to the scheduled game time. Games may start earlier when time permits.

 

 

PENALTY ENFORCEMENT

 

● Minor – 2 minutes ● Major – 5 minutes ● Misconduct – 10 minutes

 

● Fighting will result in an automatic game misconduct. The player will be removed from the game and will serve an additional one (1) game suspension.

 

● Any penalty deemed serious with intent to injure will result in a 5-minute Major and a tournament disqualification for the offending player.

 

● Any player receiving three (3) penalties will be be removed from the remainder of the game. A player from the offending player’s team will be required to serve the third penalty. Any major or checking from behind will count as two penalties.

 

 

TIE BREAKING PROCEDURES

 

● There will be no overtime in Pool Play, Round Robin Play, or Consolation Games.

 

● Teams will not be credited with more than a seven (7) goal differential per game.

 

● Tie breaking procedures for teams tied will be (in order):

 

1) Head to Head Competition

 

2) Total Goal Differential (< 7 goals per game)

 

3) Total Goals Allowed

 

4) Total Goals Scored

 

5) Least Penalty Minutes

 

6) Coin Toss

 

● In a case where a tie involves more than two teams, head-to-head tie breaker will not be used. The tie-breaking procedure, beginning with goal differential, will be used in succession until the position for the first team has been determined. The remaining tied teams will continue the tie-breaking procedure with the next procedure listed.

 

● For Semifinal, 3rd Place, and Championship games that are tied after regulation, overtime will consist of a 2-minute rest period, followed by a single 5-minute (running) 4-on-4 overtime period. If the game remains tied, a 5-man shoot-out will occur; if still tied  a Sudden-death shoot-out will occur, using all players, until a winner is determined.
